The Metal Gear Solid 4 Database is a downloadable companion application released in 2008 on the PlayStation 3 soon after Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
The Database functions as an encyclopedia for the in-game lore, characters, locations, and historical events pertaining to all entries in the series up to Metal Gear Solid 4. Information concerning Metal Gear Solid 4's story was locked until a check confirmed a completed save file present on the player's system.
In the interest of accuracy, I have not made any alterations outside of grammar, paragraph breaks, and a few internal links that seemed to have been missed in development. I have not included any of the Database's images.
When the Database was released, it faced controversy over inaccurate, retconned, or fabricated information. All of these errors are still present. With this in mind, this Database is not to be taken as an infallible source but merely as an accessible form of the original PlayStation 3 application.
